The writer had to rely on making short clips during a book signing event in Santa Barabra where the 2005 trial happened . The footage was posted on Youtube to reach out to potential readers, with the help of Thomas Mesereau, the leading attorney of the Jackson’s defence team who wrote the foreword of the book and made an appearance in the short clip.
"Youtube has been a great help definitely to reach out…because the mainstream bookstore did not care. Without Youtube…it would be very much different. Because of Youtube I have had many people reaching out to me searching for information which they cannot find on television and radio station and they really reach out to contact me and buy the book,” Jones said.
“Put it on Youtube and the fact that I was with Tom Mesereau talking about the book and justice for Michael Jackson and the biased media…He has a lot of integrity and there’s a lot of credence to what has been said in the video. People see it and want to see another side of the story. They go on to the internet and Youtube and look for this and it’s very powerful,” she added.
She also established her own blog for the very first time when her book - Michael Jackson Conspiracy came out to promote the book in 2007.
A facbook account for the book itself was also established after Jackson's death.
"I was forced to reach out to people I have no access to because the mainstream media did not care. I set it up because Michael Jackson Cconspiracy needed it to have attention I would have never done a blog otherwise…starting a blog has never come across my mind.”
“Without the internet I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have achieved now. Most fans learn about the book through the internet and social media network. The interconnectivity we did not share before makes it possible. I have people from Turkey, all over Europe or Australia…all over planet contacted me,” Jone said.
Jones also uses various social media tools such as twitter, Myspace, Flicker and Stumbleupon to spread her story about the late pop star to fans and people who have doubts about Jackson around the world after the King of Pop passed away.
Jones now has an assistant who monitors all her twitter account and additional email accounts which are devoted to people around the world who want to tell her ideas.
“A lot of people are upset about Michael’s death and in general the trial in 2005 and he was never vindicated by the media. Lots of people are angry about the media,” she said adding that another Facebook account was also set up after Jackson’s death to accommodate people who want to know the truth about the pop star.
The number of fans of Jones’s Facebook shot up to 5,000 in just a few months which is the limit of adding people to the contact list of an account.
Thinking back Jones said when she wrote Conspiracy, it was uncommon to do stories that went against the mainstream media.
“I felt that I was literally ending my career by doing this. I’ve been part of the mainstream media for years and I am going against them. Now this has become a very important alternative competition people have transferred their attention to,” Jones said.
“Suddenly now a transfer of attention to the media movement network of people that did not exist before. I remember ten years ago the internet was used as a dating service and it was never used for anything significant or was not about making a change,” she added.
Jones noted that a movement was now brewing among people in the internet trying to restore Jackson’s good name. “I receive emails from these people every day. It’s all about restoring his image and it’s very prevalent around the world. This is somebody who gave them lots of joy and entertainment and inspiration and tortured and tarnished by the media.”
